Junior Book Club members see the award-winning ‘Sky Hawk’ at Lyric Theatre

Twelve pupils from the Junior Book Club, accompanied by Miss McAtamney and Mrs Townsend, attended a musical adaptation of ‘Sky Hawk’ by Gill Lewis on Thursday 16th October, held at the Lyric Theatre. As part of last year’s NI Book Award, Junior Book Club members had read the book and really enjoyed the experience of seeing it performed live.

The book has won 9 awards and been short-listed for 23. The adaptation was performed by the Clwyd Theatr Cymru Theatre for Young People. This theatre company is dedicated to young people and families housed within a theatre complex called Clwyd Theatr in Mold, Flintshire. Their mission is to stimulate the imaginations of young people and their communities from every background, fostering creativity, discovery and a hunger for the Arts.

Book Club members had the opportunity to speak to the actors after the performance and participated in a Q&A round, alongside the other schools present. Academy pupils asked questions about costume design and asked for advice on best entry into a career in musical theatre.

‘Sky Hawk’ is available for pupils and staff to borrow from the school library and is highly recommended by both Miss McAtamney and Junior Book Club members.
