Belfast League Finals

Minor B

Congratulations to the Minor B team who won against Grosvenor B in the Belfast Area League Finals. The team won against Girls’ Model (10-0), Hazelwood (21-0) and Aquinas (11-8) and drew with Bloomfield (11-11) to reach this stage. The opening quarter of the league final was fiercely contested with Grosvenor finishing ahead with three goals to one. B.R.A.’s defensive combination of Sophia Del Castillo, Emma Higgins and Cliodhna McNaughton worked hard to close down the Grosvenor attack. The score at half time was 6-3 to B.R.A. Centre court capitalised on winning possession, with some excellent passing from Nia McVicker and Zara McClean and goals were successfully converted by Rebecca Caughey and Jessica Kendell.  At the beginning of the final quarter the Academy went from strength to strength to win the match 12-4. Well done to the whole squad who contributed to their match success.

Junior B

B.R.A. Juniors won against Hunterhouse (13-3), Hazelwood (25-3) and Ashfield (13-1) to meet Dominican in the Belfast Area League Finals.

The Academy met very strong competitors in the Dominican team.  From the first whistle it was clear that Dominican were not going to be content with Silver.  Our girls fought hard contesting many 50/50 chances but unfortunately luck was not on their side. Towards the end on the second half, B.R.A. found a better flow to their play and scored 3 consecutive goals which clearly posed a threat to the well-drilled Dominican team. Unfortunately the girls were defeated (12-6) but showed great team spirit and a desire to strive for gold next year.

Well done girls!
