The inaugural Swim Ulster Schools’ Cup & Championships took place at Bangor Aurora on 17th & 18th October.
The Academy had a strong, competitive team, which managed to come away from the weekend with some impressive performances, and plenty of medals too!
There were great swims from Conor Ferguson, who won 4 gold medals (100m Back Crawl, 200 Individual Medley and both relays), Finn Purdy (3 golds & 1 bronze), Lui Hurson (3 golds, 1 silver & 1 bronze), Lorcan Gourley (2 gold) and Adam Mahood (1 bronze), all of which helped The Academy secure the Laurence McGivern Intermediate Schools’ Cup. Notably, Finn Purdy and Lui Hurson duelled it out in nail-biting fashion in the 100m Front Crawl final, with Finn taking the gold from Lui ‘on the touch’.
The Junior Girls’ team won silver in both the Medley and Freestyle Relays, and Rachel McGrath and Siobhan Baine both made finals, each taking bronze.
Sophia Del Castillo won 2 silver and 1 bronze, Cher Enriquez 2 silver, Scarlett Armstrong 2 silver, Monica del Castillo 2 silver, Giulia Allen 1 bronze.
Sam Brown, Sinead Gourley, Katie Baird and Zoe Parkes won silver for their Front Crawl Relay.
Eight pupils have been selected for the GB Lifesaving Performance Squad:
