Congratulations to Conor Callagan (Form V) who has been awarded an Iveagh Scholarship place to work in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Dublin in April. The Iveagh Scholarship grants 30 places for students across Ireland to shadow the work of diplomats and gain insight into how Ireland manages its foreign policy. The process of choosing the participants is competitive with schools across Ireland submitting entries (this is the first time that schools in Northern Ireland have been eligible to enter).
Students were asked to respond to the theme ‘Honouring the past, imagining the future’; Conor wrote an essay which touched on the difficulties Ireland has faced in her past and how she could respond to current problems in the world such as the Middle East and Crimea. We wish Conor well for this fantastic opportunity!
