Form LVI pupil Kerrie Johnson has experienced a memorable couple of days of late. First of all she received official confirmation that she had been selected to represent Northern Ireland at this year’s UK School Games, being held in Loughborough on 1st-4th September. This will be Kerrie’s 4th School Games – last year she came home with an individual Bronze medal. Also notable is the fact that her younger sister Emily (Form IV) has been selected as non-travelling reserve.
And to cap a successful sporting week, Kerrie displayed her sporting prowess in a different discipline at Belfast Rowing Club’s Sprint Regatta on Saturday 28th May. Held over a 500m stretch of the River Lagan at Stranmillis, from Governor’s Bridge to B.R.C. Boathouse, Kerrie took to the water in the Women’s Novice Single Sculls event and recorded her first victory in what was her first ever regatta. This winning trend continued when she paired up with a Belfast Boat Club team-mate to win the Women’s Novice Double Sculls. Kerrie will now travel to Cork in July to compete in the Irish Rowing Championships at the National Rowing Centre.
