On Wednesday 22nd February, our Debating team, consisting of Jack Golden and Conor Callaghan (LVI), defeated a team from Armagh Royal in the quarter-final of the Northern Ireland Schools’ Debating Competition. They now face a team from St. Louis Grammar School, Ballymena in the semi-final round to be held at Mossley Mill on Tuesday 21st March.
The motion, which the boys had to oppose, was “This House Believes That We Over-Promote the Benefits of an Academic Education at the Expense of Vocational and Technical Training.” The judges praised the team for their stylish and articulate performance. The team defeated teams from Foyle College and St. Colman’s, Newry in previous rounds. We wish them well in their research and preparation for the next round.
