BEATING RETREAT CEREMONY

Posted on

Former pupil Noel Lamb hosted a Beating Retreat ceremony at his home, Finnebrogue House, in aid of Hope for Youth (NI) and The Soldiers’ Charity.

Beating Retreat, or Beating to Quarters, has its origins in the early years of organised warfare when the beating of drums and parading of post guards heralded the closing of camp gates and the lowering of flags at the end of the day.

Among those present at the colourful ceremony were the Academy’s new Principal, Hilary Woods; former Head of Classics, Ken Hawtin and his wife;  and the Alumni Officer and former Head of History, Eddie McCamley and his wife.
