As part of our International School status, we are always very interested in welcoming and hosting teaching staff from other countries. Last week we welcomed Dirk Niemeyer to the Academy. He comes from the Rhine-Ruhr region of Germany and was visiting Belfast with his students who were involved in Internship. Our partnership with Intern Europe arranged the visit and Dirk spent last week observing and teaching in the MFL and History Departments. He hopes to arrange an exchange between B.R.A. and his technical college in Germany. He wrote as follows about his visit and his impressions of the school:
My name is Dirk Niemeyer. I come from Rheine that is located in the Northwest of Germany. There, I work as a teacher at a technical college.
I visited Belfast for the second time to accompany a group of students who are studying at the college where I work.
Among other things, I was very interested in getting some insights of a school in Belfast. Kindly, Belfast Royal Academy consented to help me and invited me to the to participate in classes where I got to know some of the students and teaching colleagues who allowed me be part of their lessons. I was really impressed by the discipline and the interest of the students as well as by the engagement of the teachers at B.R.A.
The things that I liked was the buildings of B.R.A. and that the teachers have their own room. Moreover, I was impressed by the school uniform by which students identify with their school!
I met so lovely people at your school and got so nice impressions – it was a great pleasure to be at B.R.A. and to take part in your school life. Thank you very much!!!
I hope to come back next year or to see some of you in Germany!
