SWIMMING SUCCESS

Irish Senior Schools’ Swimming Championships

The Swimming Club took part in the Irish Senior Schools’ Swimming Championships, held in Dublin on the 11th – 12th February 2012.

The Club managed to win 11 medals in total – 9 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze.

The results were, as follows:

  • Mark Wylie won Senior Boys’ 100m Breaststroke
  • Intermediate Girls’ Relay team (Eorann O’Neill, Alice Kavanagh, Clara Montgomery and Mykila Donaldson) won both the Medley Relay & Freestyle Relay
  • Conor Ferguson was 2nd Junior Boys’ 100m Backstroke
  • Eorann O’Neill was 3rd Intermediate Girls’ 100m Frontcrawl
  • The Senior Girls’ Relay team, captained by Larragh Mann, picked up two 4th places in the Medley and Freestyle Relays.

Irish Swim Team Selection

Eorann O’Neill (Form V) travelled to Luxemburg on 26th January 2012 with the Ulster Swimming Squad where she competed alongside many of the GB Olympic swimmers, such as Amy Smith and Caitlin McClatchy.  Eorann achieved her Irish Squad selection time and qualified for the British Championships in July.  She also achieved a lifetime’s dream of meeting one of the greatest swimmers the world has ever seen – 5-time Olympic champion Ian Thorpe.
