On Saturday 6th January, as part of the Shared Education Initiative, Form VI Drama students from both Belfast Royal Academy and St Malachy’s College, Belfast, teamed-up to attend a performance of The National Theatre of Scotland’s acclaimed production of Let the Right One In at the Abbey Theatre, Dublin.
Based on the best-selling novel and critically acclaimed film of the same name, Let the Right One In tells the coming-of-age story of Oskar, a lonely and bullied schoolboy, who meets Eli, a girl who has just moved next door. They forge a deep connection but, when a series of mysterious killings plagues the neighbourhood, their friendship is tested beyond all imaginable limits.
Students were mesmerised by the grand spectacle of the show, with the stunning set design, lighting and special effects making it a real visual experience. The haunting music and booming sound design caused more than one of us to jump out of our seats on a few occasions!
It was great day out and we look forward to teaming up with St Malachy’s again for more theatre trips in the future.
