On Friday 23rd March, nearly forty pupils from Form I to MVI participated in the Ulster Fitness and Dance Championships in Queen’s PEC. All the routines the girls performed on the day were choreographed by the girls themselves, and they worked tirelessly between September and March to perfect their routines. After-school rehearsals on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and fundraising activities meant that the girls had to put in a lot of hard work, and it paid off!
The Junior team performed a Hip-Hop routine and were placed 1st in their category, against tough competition. The Intermediate team were also placed 1st in their Creative Movement category and received the award for attaining the highest points in their age group. Two Senior duos entered on behalf of the school, one Dance duo which placed 3rd and a Fitness Duo which placed 1st.
We were also delighted this year that we could enter a team into the Showcase category. The team was made up of Form I and II pupils, who had the opportunity to perform in front of the crowds at the competition without the pressure of competing. The girls received a huge round of applause and the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice received a donation on behalf of the school for the girls’ participation. It was a great day for the girls, and a great day for Dance in the school!
