Two of our Form III pupils enjoyed considerable success at swimming during the summer:
Lucy McKnight qualified for the Irish Age Group Division 2 Championships in University College, Limerick. The event was held over four days for swimmers across Ireland. Having qualified for five events earlier in the season, Lucy swam fantastically well, achieving 2 Gold medals in the 100m and 200m Backstroke. She also qualified for the final of the 200m Individual Medley. Lucy was one of a select few from Ulster to medal at this prestigious event and her times mean she has achieved Irish National Championship Gala standard.
Luke Calwell qualified for the Irish National Summer Championships. This swim meet consisted of over 1000 competitors from across the world, and was held over five days in the National Aquatic Centre, Dublin. He qualified earlier in the year to race in seven events and made the finals in three of the events, with a 4th place in 200m Butterfly, a 9th in 200m Breaststroke and 11th in 100m Breaststroke. Swim Ireland has recently recognised Luke’s achievements by selecting him for the Ulster Regional Squad for 2018/2019. He is in the top three fastest swimmers for his age group in Ulster in two Olympic events – 200m Butterfly and 200m Breaststroke.
