PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION

Posted on

Form I students were treated to three wonderful speeches presented by Ciara Gilchrist, Rebecca Crooks and Lucy Chambers during Assembly on Friday 8th March.

Ciara spoke passionately about the effects of the Great Famine. Rebecca offered an interesting perspective on the Suffragette Movement, whilst Lucy gave an animated speech about the Match Girls’ strike of 1888. These speeches also served as a fitting way to celebrate International Women’s Day.

Subject Leader for English, Mr W. Spence, had the difficult task of judging the competition. 1st place was awarded to Ciara, however, each of the students spoke confidently and clearly, using a wide range of rhetorical devices to enhance their speeches.

The competition was held as part of the Form I LORIC awards, which aim to help students improve their communication skills.

Congratulations to Ciara, Lucy and Rebecca for their impressive speeches.
