Two karting teams from the Academy took part the Northern Ireland Regional Final of the British Schools’ Karting Championships on Thursday 25th April 2013. The event, held at Nutt’s Corner, saw the B.R.A. racers compete against 19 other teams in a bid to qualify for the Grand Final.
The boys had a mixed day in changeable weather conditions, which made racing conditions very difficult. They got off to a very good start, with Stephen Rea, Michael Woods and Peter O’Neill winning the first 3 races. The rest of the team also raced well in the early stages, leaving the A Team of Oliver Vick, Jason Fleming and Aaron Gorman at the top of the standings after the third round, before eventually being overhauled to finish the competition in 2nd position. The B Team finished in a highly commendable 6th place.
It was a fantastic day’s racing for the young karting teams, and they are already looking forward to next year’s championship.
