All pupils study Technology & Design at Key Stage 3.
GCSE
Pupils have the option of studying GCSE Technology & Design. The CCEA specification is followed.
Unit 1: Technology & Design Core. The work studied in Forms 1 to 4 will be examined in a one hour examination paper taken in the May/June series of examinations in Form 5. This is worth 20% of the overall GCSE qualification.
Unit 4: Design Assignment. During Form 4, pupils will complete a Design Assignment which is set by CCEA. This controlled assessment is worth 20% of the overall GCSE qualification.
Unit 5: Design and Manufacturing Project. During Form 5, pupils will design and manufacture a project on a topic which is set by CCEA. This controlled assessment is worth 40% of the overall GCSE qualification.
Unit 2: Systems and Control. The Systems and Control work studied in Forms 3 to 5 will be examined in a one hour examination paper taken in the May/June series of examinations in Form 5. This is worth 20% of the overall GCSE qualification.
AS
Unit 1: Product Design and Systems and Control. The theory work studied in the Lower Sixth Form will be examined in a two hour examination paper taken in the May/June series of examinations in Form L6. This is worth 25% of the overall GCE qualification.
Unit 2: Product Development project. In this unit pupils will investigate and analyse an existing product, re-design, manufacture, test and evaluate the product. This is worth 25% of the overall GCE qualification.
A2
Unit 1: Systems and Control / Product Design. The theory work studied in the Middle Sixth Form will be examined in a two hour examination paper taken in the May/June series of examinations in Form M6. This is worth 25% of the overall GCE qualification.
Unit 2: Product-System, Design and Manufacture. In this unit pupils will manufacture a technological product or system which provides a solution to an identified problem or need. This is worth 25% of the overall GCE qualification.
