On Tuesday 11th February, three L6 pupils represented Belfast Royal Academy at the European Mock Council. Zara Meadows, Ellie Byrne and Nathan Davidson represented the Czech Republic, and debated the topical issues of climate change and social media. Zara, as the delegate of the Czech Republic, voted against the motion that “Every EU member state should commit to funding to help every country in the European Union become climate-neutral by 2050, specifically through investment in renewable energy due to their dependence on coal”. Nathan also voted against the motion proposed by the European Commission that “Social media should be more strictly regulated in order to preserve democracy”, believing that this would be very hard to implement. Ellie proved invaluable in her role as researcher.
